What we collect
When you create a Poka account, we collect what is needed for the platform to work and to keep it trustworthy. We do not collect data to sell.
- Account: phone number, age, gender, display name, and language preference.
- Profile: photos, voice intro, prompts, interests, declared intent, and optional fields such as profession, religion, or education.
- Verification: phone confirmation and selfie verification result. The original selfie image is deleted within 24 hours.
- Usage: connections, likes, messages, reports, and profile views used to operate and improve the service.
- Device and security: IP address, device model, operating system, and fraud-prevention signals.
- Location: approximate city or area-level location. We do not expose exact GPS coordinates to other users.
Data protection and compliance
Poka is designed to align with applicable data protection and privacy laws. That means we process personal data for clear purposes, limit what we collect, protect it, and provide user rights for access, correction, deletion, and objection where applicable.
This page is a product-facing template and not legal advice. Formal notices, regulator details, and data-controller registrations will be finalized before public launch.
How we use your data
We use your data for four things: to power discovery, to keep users safe, to comply with the law, and to improve the product.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to advertisers or third parties. We do not use your photos to train external AI models.
- Discovery recommendations are calculated from your profile, location range, interests, and declared intent.
- Safety systems scan photos and account behavior for fraud, spam, harassment, and abuse.
- Moderation teams may review content only when a report or safety workflow requires it.
- Product analytics help us find crashes, broken flows, and confusing screens without exposing sensitive details.
Who sees what
Your profile is visible to Poka users who fit discovery rules and your visibility settings. Your phone number, exact location, private account fields, and internal safety signals are never shown to other users.
Poka staff cannot freely browse private messages. Message review is limited to abuse reports, safety investigations, or legal obligations, and only the relevant content is accessed.
Your controls
You can control your data from inside the app and through support channels.
- Pause profile: hide from discovery without losing your connections.
- Incognito mode on eligible tiers: only people you have liked can see you.
- Export data: request a copy of account and profile data.
- Delete account: begin deletion with a 30-day recovery window before permanent removal.
- Change consent: adjust marketing, analytics, and recommendation preferences where available.
Biometric data — special handling
Selfie verification uses a face image once to confirm that you are the person in your profile photos. The image is processed on secure infrastructure, the verification decision is recorded, and the original image is destroyed within 24 hours unless a safety or legal hold requires otherwise.
We never sell biometric data, use it for advertising, or use it to train external AI models.
Retention and security
We retain data only as long as needed to provide Poka, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce safety rules. Deleted accounts enter a 30-day recovery window before anonymized purge.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited by role, logged, and reviewed. We do not put service secrets, payment credentials, or raw security signals in client code.
Children — strictly 18+
Poka is for adults. We do not knowingly allow users under 18. If we discover a minor on the platform, we remove the account and preserve only what is required for safety or legal reporting.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we will notify users in the app before the change takes effect. Previous versions are archived and available on request.
